What is a Virtual Event?

by | Aug 21, 2020 | Conferences, Events

A virtual event is one that is hosted online, on a ‘virtual event’ platform. Participants attend by logging in to the event online, not in person. At the time of writing, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, almost everyone is familiar with the concept. However, virtual events were around before Covid-19. Think ‘virtual meetings’ and ‘online conferencing’.

Now, and post Covid-19, in the ‘brave new world’ we’ll be living in, virtual events are set to become the norm. Platforms like Zoom have proved their worth for online meetings and classes and made virtual participation an everyday necessity. This trend is set to grow, with an expansion of virtual event platforms and capabilities, making it possible to replace almost all traditionally location-based events with virtual ones. So, how do virtual events work?

Virtual events can single or multi-session. They often feature webinars and webcasts, but they can be as simple or as multi-faceted as needed.

Some types of virtual events:

  • Webinars:
A webinar is an online event / seminar where a host, or small group of hosts, deliver a presentation to a greater audience, and are usually hosted in a public forum.
The audience can interact with the hosts by submitting questions and responding to polls.
  • Online Music Concerts:
Live music concerts can be hosted online, with the artist able to live stream their performance from their own home or studio. This allows the audience to enjoy the show from within the comforts of their own home.
  • Virtual Meetups / Conferences and Business Meetings:
Online meetups provide the best medium to connect with people that you are common interests with. Allowing you to meet and discuss topics with people in real-time.
The privacy of the participants is maintained by allowing access by invite only.
  • Virtual Trade Shows:
Virtual Trade Shows can allow larger companies to easily host an online product launch which can span across multiple locations at one time. It also enables the company to receive live feedback from consumers and industry partners.
  • Webcasts / Podcasts:
These are pre-recorded, high-quality video and audio files that are available for the virtual’ attendees’ to download and listen to in their own time.

Our virtual events are accessible, user-friendly and customisable, allowing us to connect you with your guests, whether you are hosting 2 VIP’s or educating 5000 delegates. We would be delighted to assist you with the planinng of your virtual event or conference.
